Easily Accept Credit Card Payments from Anyone

If you run a consulting business or are a freelancer, you have probably thought it was too complicated to set up your own merchant account to accept credit cards. You also probably thought it was too expensive to have one. Because at one time it was.

Setting up a system to accept credit cards has never been easier, and it’s FREE to set up. There are some fees involve in the actual process of any credit cards you accept and something you want to keep in mind when invoicing your customers. It typcially runs around 0.04% plus a transaction fee of around $0.40. On $100 your fee would be $4.40. There are two websites that you need to set up accounts to accept credit payments.

  1. Get a FREE account with Stripe. You need to use your email, and password to set up the account and make sure to tie it to your cell phone for additional security. Each time you log in to your account it will ask you for a code it will text to your phone adding an extra layer of security.
  2. Once you have your Stripe account set up you will want to link it to your bank account for your payments to be deposited into your accounts.
  3. You will need to generate an API key. On the top right of your Stripe account next to your username is a down arrow. Selecting this will give you an option for “account settings”. Select this and you will get the below menu. You will need the live Secret Key and also the Live Publishing key when you set up your account in Inspire pay.api_key_settings



4. inspire-pay-accept-credit-card-paymentsNext, you need to get a FREE Inspirepay account. Go to inspirepay.com and get a free account. The setup process is Step 1: Page detail: you can upload your own logo and put in your email, and contact information. Step 2: Allows you to set up a custom background image and set the colors in hex for Background, Page Title, Page Call out, and The Sidebar Text.  Step 3: You have an option here to set up PayPal if you desire. Step 4: Credit Card Processing – This is where you can select under gateway “STRIPE” — Place the copied “Live Secret Key” in the Setup section. You then can select which types of Credit Cards you’d like to accept.

Once you have completed this, you can click the submit button, and you are ready to start accepting credit card payments.

To request a payment once you are logged into your inspire pay – simply select “request a payment“. A Section will pop down and you can then put in a dollar amount. Then select the email icon if you want to send someone an email requesting this amount of payment.

A screen will pop up allowing you to put in a to and from email form along with a subject and note to whom you want to send it to. Select the reCaptcha and select “SEND” to send your email message. The link directs them to the page you set up and adds the custom amount for your client to fill out with their credit card info.

There’s also another option that you simply can send someone a link by following this formula

domain name + pay + your user name + the amount (i.e. $300) you are requesting.


Something else to know, your first Stripe payment to your bank account will take about 7 days to deposit for the first time. After that, it will only take about two days for it to transfer for any payments you receieve. You can also set up alerts to let you know when a payment has been made in Stripe.
